Wipe and purge promptly so milk does not dry on or inside the steam tip.
Sage coffee machine maintenance
Sage care, by model.
Find maintenance schedules, cleaning procedures, descaling guidance, water-filter information and troubleshooting for supported Sage espresso machines.
Ventori Sage baseline
A clear starting schedule.
Use this as your baseline, then follow your exact Sage model guide where its cleaning cycle, filter system or machine prompt changes the procedure.
Ventori baseline: soft 8 weeks, moderate 6 weeks, hard 4–6 weeks, very hard 4 weeks. Follow any earlier Sage descale alert.
Where your machine uses the compatible ClaroSwiss filter, Sage recommends replacement every 90 days for optimal results.
Clear-water backflushes and detergent cleaning cycles vary by model. Use the model guide and any CLEAN ME / FLUSH prompt.

Cleaning and descaling are not interchangeable.
Coffee-path cleaning
Removes coffee oils and residue from the brew path on machines that support a cleaning cycle or backflush. Sage models may show CLEAN ME, FLUSH or another cleaning prompt. Use the procedure for your exact machine.
Descaling
Removes mineral scale from the heated water system. It does not replace a coffee-oil cleaning cycle, and a cleaning tablet does not replace descaling.
Care essentials

FAQs
Sage maintenance questions
What maintenance does a Sage coffee machine need?
Typical care includes wiping and purging the steam wand after milk use, keeping the group head and baskets clean, replacing a compatible water filter when due, running the model’s coffee-path cleaning cycle, and descaling according to water hardness and machine guidance.
How often should I descale a Sage coffee machine?
Ventori’s baseline is every 4–8 weeks depending on water hardness: around 8 weeks in soft water, 6 weeks in moderate water, 4–6 weeks in hard water and 4 weeks in very hard water. Follow an earlier Sage descale alert if your machine gives one.
Do all Sage machines need backflushing?
No. Coffee-path cleaning varies by model. Some Sage machines support clear-water backflushing and a detergent cleaning cycle, while the exact interface and procedure differ. Use your model guide rather than applying one universal routine.
How often should I replace a Sage ClaroSwiss water filter?
Sage states that the ClaroSwiss filter should be replaced every 90 days for optimal results, subject to machine compatibility and the instructions for your model.
Is a cleaning cycle the same as descaling?
No. A coffee-path cleaning cycle targets coffee oils and residue. Descaling targets mineral deposits in the water system. They solve different maintenance problems.
Should I wait for a Sage maintenance light?
No. Routine care such as steam-wand cleaning, filter replacement and general cleanliness should still be maintained. For descaling, Ventori provides a hardness-based interval; if the machine prompts sooner, follow the prompt.
