Ventori tip

Don’t confuse descaling with the cleaning cycle. Descaling removes mineral scale from the machine; the Clean Cycle removes coffee oils from the group head. Sage also recommends a clear-water backflush after each coffee-making session.

After every use

Clean the steam wand

The Oracle Touch automatically purges the steam wand when it is lowered after automatic milk texturing. Wipe the wand and tip first so the purge can clear residual milk effectively.

Wipe immediately after texturing
01

Wipe immediately after texturing

Wipe the steam wand and tip with a clean damp cloth immediately after every milk drink.

Lower the wand to auto-purge
02

Lower the wand to auto-purge

Lower the wand back to its down position so the Oracle Touch can automatically purge residual milk from the steam path.

Clear partially blocked holes
03

Clear partially blocked holes

If a steam-tip hole is blocked, stop steaming and use the supplied steam-tip cleaning tool to clear it.

Refit securely and purge
05

Refit securely and purge

Rinse thoroughly, refit the steam tip tightly and purge the wand before the next milk drink.

Ventori tip

Wipe the wand and tip immediately after milk texturing, then lower the wand so the automatic purge can run. If the tip remains blocked, use the cleaning tool or soak the tip and wand as directed by Sage.

Grinder care

Clean the Oracle Touch grinder

The Oracle Touch uses an integrated conical-burr grinder with automatic grind, dose and tamp. Dry cleaning the burrs, grind outlet and tamping fan helps maintain consistent grinding and dosing.

Remove the beans
01

Remove the beans

Remove the remaining beans from the hopper and store them in a clean, dry container.

Run the grinder empty
02

Run the grinder empty

Run the grinder until no more coffee comes from the grind outlet, then unlock and remove the hopper.

Remove the upper burr
03

Remove the upper burr

Unlock and lift out the upper burr using its wire handle.

Reassemble the grinder
06

Reassemble the grinder

Replace the tamping fan, push and lock the upper burr into position, reinstall the hopper and confirm normal grinding with fresh beans.

Ventori tip

A soft brush is all you need for routine grinder cleaning. Avoid using water inside the grinder.

Common questions

Sage Oracle Touch FAQs

How do I know when to descale the Sage Oracle Touch?

The Oracle Touch displays a descale message when maintenance is required. Start the procedure from the pop-up message or Settings → Descale Cycle and follow the touchscreen instructions.

How long does the Oracle Touch descale cycle take?

Sage says to allow approximately 1.5 hours for the complete descale process. If the machine has just been used, switch it off and allow it to cool for at least 1 hour before starting.

Can I descale the Oracle Touch without using the Settings menu?

No. Sage specifically warns against attempting to descale the machine outside the guided Descale Cycle because damage could occur.

When does the Oracle Touch need a cleaning cycle?

The machine displays a cleaning message after approximately 200 shots. The Clean Cycle can also be started manually from Settings.

Is the Oracle Touch Clean Cycle the same as descaling?

No. The Clean Cycle backflushes the group head and cleans coffee oils from the shower screen. Descaling removes mineral scale from the machine’s water system.

Should I backflush the Oracle Touch between cleaning cycles?

Yes. Sage recommends a clear-water backflush after each coffee-making session. Fit the cleaning disc without a tablet, build pressure for around 20 seconds, stop to release the pressure and repeat five times.

Which water filter does the Sage Oracle Touch use?

The Oracle Touch SES990 is listed by Sage as compatible with the ClaroSwiss water filter.

How often should I replace the Oracle Touch water filter?

Sage recommends replacing the water filter approximately every three months. The filter should be soaked in cold water for 5 minutes before installation.

How should I clean the automatic steam wand?

Wipe the wand and tip with a damp cloth immediately after milk texturing, then lower the wand so the automatic purge can run. If a steam-tip hole blocks, use the supplied cleaning tool; persistent blockages may require soaking the tip and wand.

How should I clean the Oracle Touch grinder?

Run the grinder empty, remove the hopper and upper burr, brush the upper and lower burrs, then clean the grind outlet and tamping-fan area with the supplied dry cleaning tools. Do not use water inside the grinder.

Why is my Oracle Touch grinder clumping or dosing inconsistently?

Coffee oils, fine grounds and moisture can collect around the burrs, grind outlet or tamping area. A thorough dry clean often restores more consistent grinding and dosing.

What should I clean after each coffee-making session?

Rinse the portafilter and filter basket, wipe the steam wand, clear grounds from the shower screen, empty the drip tray as needed and complete a clear-water backflush before switching the machine off.
