Bean-to-cup maintenance

Automatic coffee machines still need several different kinds of care.

Brew-group cleaning, tablet programmes, descaling, water filtration and milk hygiene solve different problems. The right routine depends on whether your machine has a removable brew unit, an integrated cleaning system or a combined service programme.

01
Coffee residue

Remove oils, grounds and residue from the brew system using the cleaning route designed for the machine.

02
Mineral scale

Use the machine’s descale logic, local water hardness and active filter status rather than a one-size-fits-all interval.

03
Incoming water

Keep the correct filter activated and replaced so the machine’s water-care tracking stays accurate.

The biggest cross-brand difference

Removable brew unit or integrated brew system?

This single distinction changes one of the most important routine-cleaning jobs.

USER-REMOVABLE BREW UNIT

Philips · De’Longhi · Siemens

These machines allow the user to remove the brew group or infuser for periodic rinsing and physical cleaning. The exact release mechanism and cleaning interval still vary by model.

  • Remove only when the machine is in the correct parked/off state.
  • Use water and the manufacturer-approved physical cleaning method.
  • Keep detergent-tablet programmes separate from the manual rinse unless the model explicitly combines them.
INTEGRATED BREW SYSTEM

JURA

JURA’s brew mechanism is not a user-removable brew group. Routine internal coffee-system care is handled through the machine’s prompted cleaning programme.

  • Do not force access to or try to remove the brew mechanism.
  • Run the integrated cleaning programme when prompted.
  • Keep CLARIS filter care, descaling and milk hygiene as separate jobs.

The broad care jobs are shared. The brew unit, filter, tablet location, controls and programme sequence are not.

Product follows the maintenance job

Cleaning tablets, descaler and filters do three different things.

Ventori’s bean-to-cup care is separated by function. The upcoming coffee-system cleaner targets coffee oils and residue. Descaler is available now for mineral scale. Machine-specific filter products are in development; the current filter pages provide compatibility and replacement guidance.

Use the exact machine route. The cleaning product can be compatible while the placement and programme still differ by machine. Follow the exact model guide for where the tablet or descaling solution belongs.

Personalise the routine

Water hardness and usage are especially important on automatic machines.

Choose your exact model, check local water hardness and tell us how heavily the machine is used. Ventori Care Schedule then keeps the recurring jobs together while respecting the machine’s own cleaning and filter prompts.

Bean-to-cup maintenance questions

The distinctions that prevent the most common maintenance mistakes.

What maintenance does a bean-to-cup coffee machine need?

Most automatic machines need several separate jobs: daily container and milk hygiene, coffee-system or brew-group cleaning, water filtration where fitted, and descaling when the machine or water conditions require it.

Do all bean-to-cup machines have a removable brew group?

No. Philips, De’Longhi and Siemens use user-removable brew units on the families covered here. JURA uses an integrated brew system and relies on its internal cleaning programme instead. Never force access to a brew unit the manufacturer does not make user-removable.

Is a bean-to-cup cleaning tablet the same as descaler?

No. A cleaning tablet targets coffee oils and residue in the coffee path. Descaler targets mineral deposits in the water path. They are different products used in different programmes.

Does using a water filter mean I never need to descale?

Not automatically. Filtration reduces incoming scale exposure and can alter the machine’s descale logic, but the exact relationship depends on the filter system, activation status, local water hardness and machine programme.

How often should I clean the milk system?

Milk-contact parts need much more frequent attention than the coffee-system cleaning programme. Rinse or clean them after milk use and follow the deeper-clean routine specified by the exact machine.

VENTORI MAINTENANCE LIBRARY

Need a different type of coffee machine?

Bean-to-cup is one branch of the wider Ventori maintenance library. Espresso and pod-machine ecosystems sit alongside it.
