Cleaning is often button- or display-led. Some machines use a cleaning disc or basket insert, while descaling remains a separate water-path programme.
Espresso machine maintenance
A cleaning-disc cycle, guided CLEAN programme and blind-basket backflush can all solve related coffee-oil problems — but they are not the same procedure. Start with the care job, then move into your exact machine and manufacturer method.
Clean the group, shower screen and brew path using the supported cleaning or backflush routine.
Treat the water path separately. Water hardness and machine architecture determine how aggressive scale care should be.
Purge and wipe the steam system immediately after milk use, then clean removable parts separately.
Brush, rinse and inspect the parts a chemical cleaning cycle cannot physically reach.
The maintenance jobs
The most common mistakes happen when coffee-oil cleaning, mineral-scale removal and milk hygiene are treated as one generic “cleaning” task.
Cleans the coffee side of a compatible espresso machine using a blind basket, cleaning disc or manufacturer cleaning cycle.

The core chemistry is familiar, but where the cleaner goes, whether the machine can be backflushed and how water scale should be managed all change with the platform.
Cleaning is often button- or display-led. Some machines use a cleaning disc or basket insert, while descaling remains a separate water-path programme.
Manual group flushing, blind-basket backflushing and steam-wand care are central. Water management remains a separate maintenance job.
Routine group cleaning is familiar, but larger boiler systems make suitable source water and preventative scale control especially important.

Ventori’s espresso-care products are deliberately separated by chemistry and task. Coffee-oil cleaner belongs in the supported group-cleaning routine. Descaler belongs only in the model-appropriate water-path procedure.
Personalise the routine
Choose your machine, check local water hardness and tell us how often you use it. Ventori Care Schedule then keeps the relevant jobs together without pretending every espresso machine needs the same interval.
Build the schedule first. Email is optional if you want Ventori to remember it and send reminders.

No. Backflushing targets coffee oils and residue around the group and three-way valve on compatible machines. Descaling targets mineral deposits in the water path. They use different products and different procedures.
No. Backflushing should only be used where the machine design and manufacturer procedure support a blind basket, cleaning disc or dedicated cleaning cycle. Always start with the exact model guide.
Daily flushing and steam-wand hygiene are separate from periodic detergent cleaning. Detergent backflush timing depends on machine design and use, while descale timing depends heavily on water quality and the manufacturer programme.
Heat-exchanger and dual-boiler machines contain larger, more expensive water systems. Suitable source water or treatment helps manage scale risk and can be more important than repeatedly running chemical descale cycles.
Purge and wipe the steam wand immediately after use. Removable milk-contact parts should also be cleaned according to the machine design before milk residue has time to dry.
Espresso is one branch of the wider Ventori maintenance library. Bean-to-cup and pod-machine ecosystems sit alongside it.
