Nespresso UK currently recommends descaling every 3–4 months or after about 300 capsules, whichever comes first, unless the machine gives an earlier alert. Cleaning and milk care happen much more frequently.
Capsule area
Eject used capsules and keep accessible coffee residue from building up around the outlet and capsule area.
Water, tray & container
Refresh tank water, empty the drip tray and capsule container and wipe accessible surfaces.
General clean

No backflushing

Eject used capsules promptly
Do not leave a spent capsule sitting in the brewing area for long periods.
Wash removable parts
Clean the drip tray, capsule container and water tank regularly using the method allowed for this model.
Wipe accessible coffee residue
Use a soft damp cloth around the outlet and accessible capsule-contact area. Do not push tools into the brewing mechanism.

Slow flow, noise, temperature changes, capsule problems and warning lights do not all mean the machine needs descaling. Start with what has changed, then rule out the simple maintenance causes.
