How to activate AquaClean

Maintenance schedule

The useful baseline.

AquaClean changes the descaling relationship, so filter status and the machine's Calc/Clean prompt matter.

Drip tray

Empty daily or when the red indicator shows full.

Grounds container

Empty when prompted; clean weekly.

Water tank

Clean and rinse weekly.

Brew group

Rinse weekly with lukewarm water.

Coffee-oil clean

Monthly brew-group filter clean using the approved procedure.

Lubrication

About 4 months at 1–5 coffees/day; 2 months at 6–10; monthly above 10/day.

AquaClean

Replace when requested and at least every 3 months.

Descaling

With active AquaClean, follow machine/filter status. Without it, use hardness as the baseline and follow any earlier Calc/Clean prompt.

Without active AquaClean: Ventori baseline is soft 8 weeks, moderate 6 weeks, hard 4–6 weeks and very hard 4 weeks. With AquaClean active: follow Philips' filter status and machine descale prompt.

How to clean the Philips 2200 brew group.

Switch the machine off
1

Remove the tank to access the service door.

Remove the brew group
3

Remove the brew group

Open the service door, press PUSH and pull the brew group out carefully.

Let it air-dry

Let excess water drain and allow the brew group to air-dry.

Reinstall
6

Reinstall

Slide it back into position securely, close the door and refit the tank.

If the brew group will not come out, do not force it. Refit the tank, close the service door, switch the machine on and off normally, and try again after the mechanism has returned to its resting position.

Brew-group lubrication

Lubricate by usage — not one fixed interval.

Philips' current guidance is roughly every 4 months at 1–5 coffees/day, every 2 months at 6–10, and monthly above 10/day.

Remove, rinse and dry
1

Remove, rinse and dry

Switch off, remove the brew group, rinse with lukewarm water and let it air-dry.

4

Grease the side rails

Apply a thin layer to the rails on both sides, then reinstall the brew group.

AquaClean

Prepare, install and activate the filter correctly.

Philips specifies AquaClean replacement at least every 3 months or when the machine requests it.

Prepare the filter
1

Prepare the filter

Shake the new filter for about 5 seconds, then immerse it upside down in cold water until air bubbles stop.

Install in the tank
2

Install in the tank

Push the filter onto the tank connection until secure, then refill with fresh water.

Prepare the outlet
3

Prepare the outlet

If fitted, remove LatteGo and place a suitable container under the hot-water outlet or classic frother.

Activate AquaClean
4

Activate AquaClean

Use the AquaClean control and follow the machine's activation sequence; the video above shows the supported 2200 interface.

Let activation complete
5

Let activation complete

Allow the programmed priming/activation water flow to finish before normal use.

Descaling with AquaClean: Philips states compatible AquaClean systems can reach up to 5,000 cups without descaling when eight filters are replaced as indicated by the machine; actual use varies. The practical rule is to keep the filter active, replace it when requested/at least every 3 months, and descale when prompted.

Calc / Clean

How to descale the Philips 2200.

For the 0800/1200/2200/3200 interface, hold Calc/Clean for 3 seconds, then press Start/Stop. Let the complete descale and rinse process finish.

Product note: Philips' official procedure specifies Philips descaling solution. The control sequence below is based on Philips guidance. If you use a compatible alternative descaler, follow that product's dose instructions as well.
Prepare the machine
1

Prepare the machine

Empty and reinsert the drip tray. Remove LatteGo or the classic frother if fitted, and remove the AquaClean filter.

Prepare the solution

8

Fit a new AquaClean filter if used

If you use AquaClean, Philips instructs you to install and activate a new filter after descaling.

Monthly brew-group filter care

Coffee-oil cleaning is not descaling.

For compatible 2200 models with the pre-ground function, the coffee-oil procedure targets grease on the brew-group filter.

Prepare the machine
1

Prepare the machine

Fill the tank, place a cup under the spout and put one suitable coffee-oil remover tablet in the pre-ground compartment.

Select pre-ground coffee
2

Pause midway
3

Philips' procedure instructs you to unplug after roughly half a cup has brewed and let the solution work for at least 15 minutes.

Reconnect and rinse
4

Reconnect and switch on; let the machine heat and complete its automatic rinse.

Rinse the brew group
5

Rinse the brew group

Remove the brew group, rinse thoroughly under fresh water and reinstall it.

Run two water-only cycles
6

Run two water-only cycles

Select pre-ground coffee without adding coffee and run a cycle; repeat once more.

Never put a coffee-oil cleaning tablet in the water tank as a substitute for descaler.

Milk-system care

The 2200 routine depends on the milk system fitted.

2200 with LatteGo

Rinse the two LatteGo parts under the tap or clean them in the dishwasher after each use.

2200 with classic milk frother

Clean the external part daily, including the small air opening. Philips also specifies a monthly milk-circuit clean for the classic frother.

How often should I clean the brew group?

Philips recommends a weekly lukewarm-water rinse and a monthly coffee-oil clean of the brew-group filter.
