Capsule & spill care
Eject used capsules, keep the capsule area tidy and wipe coffee splashes when needed.
Nespresso Vertuo maintenance
A clear care routine for Vertuo Pop, Vertuo Next, Vertuo Plus and Vertuo Creatista — covering everyday cleaning, descaling and the exact way each machine enters descaling mode.
At a glance
The core routine is similar across Vertuo machines, with extra steam-wand care on Vertuo Creatista.
Eject used capsules, keep the capsule area tidy and wipe coffee splashes when needed.
Refresh the water, empty the drip tray and capsule container, and keep accessible surfaces clean.
Clean the tank, drip tray, capsule container and accessible brewing-head area; use the machine's cleaning/rinse procedure where applicable.
Use water hardness as the preventive baseline and follow an earlier machine alert.

Descaling schedule
Ventori uses water hardness as the baseline. If your Vertuo gives a descale alert sooner, follow the machine alert.
Lower mineral exposure while keeping a regular preventive routine.
A practical middle interval for typical mineral exposure.
Move toward 4 weeks for heavy daily use.
Higher mineral exposure means a shorter baseline.

When something changes
A descale alert is a clear maintenance signal. Noise, reduced flow, cooler coffee or inconsistent volumes can have several causes, so use the symptom as a starting point rather than proof of scale.

Ventori’s baseline is every 4–8 weeks depending on water hardness: around 8 weeks in soft water, 6 weeks in moderate water, 4–6 weeks in hard water and 4 weeks in very hard water. Follow an earlier machine alert.
They use a very similar two-stage button-and-lever sequence: hold the button for about 7 seconds, lock and unlock, then hold again before locking and starting the cycle.
No. Vertuo Plus uses its Special Functions menu. Enter that menu with the button and lever, select Descaling with one lever press, then start with the button.
Vertuo Creatista adds steam-wand and milk-care maintenance. Its descaling programme is also entered through the Steam and Milk Temperature controls rather than the Pop/Next lever sequence.
No. Backflushing is not part of the Vertuo maintenance routine.
No. Cleaning removes coffee residue and general dirt, while descaling removes mineral deposits from the water system.
Noise alone does not prove limescale. Check for broader flow changes, capsule seating, tank position and other symptoms before choosing the maintenance action.
Do not use household vinegar by default. Use a coffee-machine-compatible descaler unless the machine manufacturer explicitly approves another method.
