Nespresso Original maintenance

Nespresso Original maintenance guide.

A clear care routine for Original-line machines including Essenza Mini, Pixie, CitiZ, Inissia and Lattissima models — covering everyday cleaning, descaling and the maintenance habits that actually matter.

Nespresso Original maintenance guide

At a glance

A simple Original-line care schedule.

These are the useful baseline intervals. Descaling depends on water hardness, while milk-system care only applies to models that include one.

After use

Capsule & spill care

Eject used capsules, keep the capsule area tidy and wipe coffee splashes when needed.

Daily / as needed

Water & tray

Refresh the water, empty the drip tray and rinse accessible parts according to your model.

Weekly

General clean

Clean the water tank, capsule container, drip tray and coffee outlet area.

Every 4–8 weeks

Descaling

Use water hardness as the preventive baseline and follow an earlier machine alert.

Routine cleaning

Keep the everyday care simple.

Nespresso Original daily care

Daily / after use

Coffee-contact areas

  • Eject used capsules rather than leaving them in the chamber.
  • Empty the capsule container when needed.
  • Wipe spills and accessible coffee-contact areas.
  • Refresh the tank with fresh water as part of normal use.
Nespresso Original weekly cleaning

Weekly

Deeper general clean

  • Wash the water tank and drip tray.
  • Clean the used-capsule container.
  • Wipe the coffee outlet and surrounding surfaces.
  • For Lattissima models, follow the milk-system cleaning routine separately.
No backflushing: Nespresso Original machines use a capsule brewing system and should not be treated like a traditional espresso machine with a blind basket or backflush cycle.

Descaling schedule

Set the interval by water hardness.

Ventori uses water hardness as the preventive baseline. If the machine gives a descale alert sooner, follow the alert.

Soft waterEvery 8 weeks

Lower mineral exposure while keeping a regular preventive routine.

Moderate waterEvery 6 weeks

A practical middle interval for typical mineral exposure.

Hard waterEvery 4–6 weeks

Move toward 4 weeks for heavy daily use.

Very hard waterEvery 4 weeks

Higher mineral exposure means a shorter baseline.

Original-line models

One family, but not one identical control sequence.

The maintenance routine is similar across the Original line, but button sequences, milk systems and descale-mode entry can differ by model.

Essenza Mini

Compact Original-line machine. Use the exact Essenza Mini instructions when entering or exiting descaling mode.

Pixie

Original-line care principles apply, but use the Pixie control sequence for descaling.

CitiZ

General cleaning and descaling apply; model-specific control steps should come from the exact CitiZ instructions.

Inissia

Keep the capsule area, tray and tank clean and use the machine-specific descale procedure.

Lattissima One

Add milk-system cleaning to the normal Original-line routine.

Lattissima Touch

Milk-system care is separate from descaling and should follow the model-specific milk-cleaning routine.

For descaling

Ventori Descaler Tablets

For Nespresso Original descaling procedures where a suitable coffee-machine descaler is required.

When something changes

Troubleshoot the symptom before assuming limescale.

Slow flow, unusual noise, cooler coffee or inconsistent results can have more than one cause. Descaling becomes more plausible when several water-system symptoms appear together, the machine prompts for it, or the machine is overdue in hard water.

FAQs

Nespresso Original maintenance questions

How often should I descale a Nespresso Original machine?

Ventori’s baseline is every 4–8 weeks depending on water hardness: around 8 weeks in soft water, 6 weeks in moderate water, 4–6 weeks in hard water and 4 weeks in very hard water. Follow an earlier machine alert.

What maintenance does a Nespresso Original machine need?

Regular capsule-area cleaning, drip-tray and water-tank care, weekly general cleaning and periodic descaling. Lattissima models also need their milk systems cleaned according to the model routine.

Do Nespresso Original machines need backflushing?

No. Backflushing is not part of the Nespresso Original maintenance routine.

Is descaling the same as cleaning?

No. Cleaning removes coffee residue and general dirt, while descaling removes mineral deposits from the water system.

Can filtered water reduce limescale?

Filtered water can reduce mineral exposure depending on the filter used, but it does not automatically remove the need for descaling.

Why is my Nespresso making more noise?

Noise alone does not prove limescale. Check for broader water-flow changes, capsule seating, tank position and other symptoms before choosing the maintenance action.

Can I use vinegar to descale?

Do not use household vinegar by default. Use a coffee-machine-compatible descaler unless the machine manufacturer explicitly approves another method.
